Puppy and young dog sleeves in Nylcot

Nylcot smells like ordinary clothes rather than jute. It is a good thing to let service dogs bite on these sleeves so the dog can bite without the smell of jute. The sleeves are soft and quite like jacket sleeves, with colours like ordinary clothing. Nylcot is 70% cotton and 30% nylon and is very hard wearing. The material has been developed because nylon alone damages dogs' teeth and sometimes also their gums. The layer under the nylcot is made of felt to make it as gentle as possible to the dogs.

These sleeves do not have bite bars. The softest sleeve is padded with foam rubber and is bite-friendly for puppies and young dogs. When they begin to bite harder, you have to stop using these sleeves quite quickly and change to the medium sleeve. The medium sleeve can often be used to start young dogs on. When the bite increases, go on to the strong sleeve. This withstands harder bites, even from adult dogs with a normal bite. Elastic arm protection can be used inside these sleeves, and then harder bites can be tolerated without any problems. You hold onto a wooden handle in the middle. In Swedish "tests of courage" you usually turn your hand round and hold the handle the other way.

Young dog sleeve

Manufactured in Germany. Made in padded chrome leather. Fits both right and left arms. For bites on forearm and upper arm. The young dog sleeve is soft and can be used for all dogs from puppy/young dog to adult dog (except dogs with 500 kg bites). Very bite-friendly and a good sleeve for starting bite training. Also available in an extra-soft version to start dogs and puppies that are unwilling to bite. The bite-friendly jute cover is included in the price. Fitted with handle strap inside, but skilled helpers usually poke their fingers out and hold the sleeve at its end. This is not recommended, because without a lot of experience it is easy to get bitten accidentally.

Manufactured by Schweikert, Germany. Young dog sleeve with jute lower part and plastic top part. Intended for training for forearm bites and improving the bite. Fitted with wedge-shaped bite bar. Handle inside the sleeve. This is the softest young dog sleeve with a bite bar, and is very bite-friendly. Does not withstand such hard bites as Frabo's and Gappay's equivalents, which can also be used for adult dogs with normal bites. This is the softest of all young dog sleeves with a bite bar. The bite bar is formed by the "cover" being designed like a bar. Other sleeves have a padded bite bar. This is the most bite-friendly sleeve but it does not withstand hard bites.

Manufactured by Frabo, Germany. Bite-friendly young dog sleeve with bite bar. Used at the start of protection training and for young dogs. The bite bar means the dog gives a full bite. If the dog does not give a full bite, the arm is held vertical to the ground during the fight. The dog then goes from biting anyhow into making full bites, and is not allowed to win the sleeve until he has a full bite. The young dog sleeve is soft and bite-friendly and offers the dog a pleasant sensation during the bite. Withstands quite hard bites, and can also be used for adult dogs but not hard biting dogs. The repair part is a narrow piece of hessian, as wide as the bite bar's most used bite surface. In order to avoid changing the expensive bottom part when the sleeve is bitten to pieces, a repair part can be put over it. The repair part fits the Schweikert young dog sleeve and all adult sleeves with a bite bar. Can also be used to extend the life of the sleeve and to relieve the pressure when the dog begins to bite too hard for the young dog sleeve.

The young dog sleeve is medium-soft and bite-friendly and makes biting a pleasant experience for the dog. At the end of the sleeve the bite bar is tapered to avoid "out on the hand bites" and to train for correct biting right from the start. The Gappay young dog sleeve withstands quite hard bites and can also be used for most adult dogs except hard biting dogs. Easy to move about in and a very pleasant high quality sleeve. This sleeve can sometimes be used on the wrong side, e.g. a right sleeve on the left. This cannot be done with other makes of sleeve.

Strong plastic protective sleeve

Manufactured by Schweikert, Germany. Strong and durable plastic protective sleeve. Easy to handle, very light sleeve fitted with extra-strong and perfectly centred wedge-shaped leather bite bar. The bar points slightly downwards and is ideal for a leaping dog. On other bar sleeves the bar is completely horizontal. Handle inside the sleeve. Leather protective sleeve

Manufactured by Schweikert, Germany. Protective sleeve in chrome tanned leather. Round sleeve in leather. Available soft or hard. Padded and fitted with handle inside. Fits both right and left arms. When fitted with a blue cover this sleeve looks quite discreet. The extra-long and soft padded cover is used when the dog is unwilling to bite on the sleeve. The soft filling is bite-friendly and can be used over a period until the dog is so trained that it bites on the ordinary cover. The soft cover is used mainly for young dogs.

The wedge-shaped bite bar makes the dog want to give a full bite. It is unpleasant to nip at. If the dog does not give a full bite, the arm is held vertical to the ground during the fight. The dog then goes from biting anyhow into making full bites, and is not allowed to win the sleeve until he has a full bite.

The bite bar reinforcement is used to make the bite bar softer and larger. For dogs with big bites, it is more pleasant to bite on and is a wear part - the sleeve lasts and the reinforcement takes the wear. Dog Security protective sleeve

This is our own protective sleeve, designed for Swedish protection work. It withstands quite hard bites. An arm cuff should be worn underneath for hard biting dogs. The sleeve is flexible and comfortable to work with, and gives strong protection. Particularly suitable for professional helpers who otherwise work with the Swedish sleeve and always have bruises. Transverse wooden handle inside the sleeve. Open at the end so a whip can be held in tests of courage. It can be stitched at the bottom so the dog cannot get inside the sleeve, but it is still possible to hold a whip. We advise everybody who has the slightest hesitation to try this

sleeve. The sleeve can be supplied in blue, yellow, black and red to look more realistic when training service dogs. The fastening for the line is much more ingenious, and the sleeve fits better on the trials helper, who also avoids getting scratch wounds on the throat when the dog 'hits' from behind. Manufactured in self-healing nylcot that lasts longer and is bite-friendly for the dogs. Swedish Sleeve

This is a improved variant of the white quilted protection sleeve in nylon that is often used at the Swedish Working Dog Club's protection trials. Fitted with an extendable bite roll. Used primarily for trials training. An under-sleeve must be used for training hard biting service dogs. This arm is manufactured in Nylcot. A material that opens up when the dog bite and afterwards the holes self-heal. Beneath the Nylcot lies a bite friendly felting. All this for the benefit of the dog, so that it will get at good grip and not slide off.
