Blinds

Manufactured in Germany. Movable hiding place for protection training so that the helper can get away from the dog quickly and hence give a quick win. The helper works with the dog and can then disappear quickly from the dog's sight. Makes learning simpler in many cases. The dog can quickly frighten away the helper and feel confident in the situation during new exercises, etc. The blind is excellent for training for guarding. The blind is part of European protection trials, with six used in the search in Schutzhund III (Master class).

Jute play rolls and tugs

From Frabo, Schweikert and Gappay. Play roll for training the pursuit and fighting drive. Made of jute, fitted with rope. Right from the puppy stage the play roll encourages the puppy's fighting drive. The play roll fits in a side pocket in the trousers and is easy to take along during obedience training for stimulating contact and interest for the dog. The 30 cm long tug is fitted with a handle and is a perfect tug toy. The thick tug gets the dog to give a proper bite. Then it is easy to transfer to the 60 cm long tug with a handle at each end. Training in which the dog is allowed to win the tug is a good introduction to bite exercises. The tug is almost like a protective sleeve, so the transition to a protective sleeve is smooth

because the protective sleeves are in the same material, jute. Before the protection dog is allowed to bite on the protective sleeve, it should have a good bite on a tug. The 70 cm bite roll is manufactured by Schweikert, Germany. It is extra-strong and used mainly where the same bite roll is used for several dogs and over a long period. Fitted with a rope so the roll can be thrown on the ground and then jerked to move it. This makes the helper's work easier. The agitation leather is used at the beginning of protection dog training or at the puppy stage. The dog's fighting drive, interest in objects and pursuit drive are encouraged. The dog is allowed to fight for and win the leather rag. The dog's confidence and fighting drive are encouraged, which benefits all dogs. The interest in objects increases, and eventually the rag can be used for obedience training, tracking training/tracking finish, search training, the obedience training, etc. The ball with handle is used in obedience training to make the dog look up at the handler. The dog gazes at the ball and is sometimes allowed to play with it. If attention lapses, the ball is thrown to the right and the dog is allowed to retrieve it. Whips and sticks

From Frabo and Schweikert. The padded stick is a flexible leather-covered padded stick. Simulates striking the dog without hurting or damaging it. Tests using a padded stick on biting protection dogs are included in European protection tests. Often called a soft stock or soft stick. The whips are used to increase the dog's willingness to attack (and not for hitting it) according to protection training techniques. The whips are used exclusively to raise the intensity of the dog's prey drive, and not in aggression training. The whip makes the helper's work easier because he does not have to run as much. When the helper hits the ground with the whip, the protection dog (and many other dogs) is activated in seconds. Available in wood or plastic. Additional poppers to suit are available.

Leather whiplashes, poppers and shrinking tubing

From Kenjan and Schweikert. Kenjan leather whiplash, 110 cm long including attachment piece. The attachment piece relieves the strain on the popper between the whip shaft and the lash so that the lash lasts. The lash is in normal quality leather but longer than usual, so it can be shortened for whips over 60 cm. The popper is in special material for hitting the grass loudly. Additional poppers are available.

Shrinking tubing Shrink to the outside of the wooden whip, either with a small piece where the whip is most heavily strained or over the whole whip. Whips in twisted wood are usually shrunk all over. The whip lasts longer and is protected against rain and damp. A proper hot air gun is needed to heat the shrinking tubing. A hair dryer is not powerful enough.

Aluminium dumbbells

All dogs have an innate desire to chew on wood and sticks. Some dogs even eat sticks. Chewing on the dumbbell loses points in competition, so the metal dumbbell, being unpleasant to chew, is the best way to start dumbbell training. Some dogs will refuse initially to bite the metal dumbbell, but if the dog will bite the metal dumbbell it is recommended to begin training with it as puppy play. If the dog is reluctant, try a plastic dumbbell. It is not as pleasant to chew as wood.

Heavy iron dumbbells

Rubber-protected bite handle. Substantial quality. Dogs with bad chewing problems can only be trained with heavy dumbbells. A strong German Shepherd-sized dog often needs the 4 kg dumbbell. The dog must then grip the dumbbell hard, otherwise he drops it. Hence it is impossible for the dog to chew the heavy dumbbell. The dog becomes accustomed to not chewing, which hopefully remains the case in competition.

Nylon dumbbells

Good quality plastic (nylon) dumbbells. Used for their durability and to avoid the dog's starting to chew. Ideal at the beginning of dumbbell training before the dog gets the bad habit of chewing the dumbbell to bits, which gets marked down in trials. The nylon dumbbell is not as satisfying to chew as the wooden ones. Can often reduce existing chewing. A hard-wearing dumbbell that also floats. Ideal for the dog to retrieve in water.

Anti-chewdumbbell

The anti-chew dumbbell is a 650 g wooden dumbbell. On one side there is an iron weight. If the dog chews on the dumbbell, then he will drop it heavy side first. Dogs have an innate drive to chew on sticks and bits of wood. Dumbbells and tracking dumbbells are wooden and good to chew.

If you increase the dumbbell retrieve drive by playing and hunting, the dog often chews on the dumbbell. Most usually (90%) you can get rid of this with the anti-chew dumbbell. You have to train some dogs with metal dumbbells and heavy dumbbells too. The advantage of the anti-chew dumbbell is that the dog must hold it firmly so as not to drop it. The anti-chew dumbbell has paraffin on the ends so the dog holds it in the right place and does not bite the ends. I have seen a long-term chewing problem disappear immediately with this dumbbell, after the dog has dropped the dumbbell once. Wooden dumbbells

The dumbbells have European trials standard dimensions. The heavy dumbbells have integral metal weights. With dogs with great interest in objects, you can begin training with the metall or the plastic dumbbell on page 39 to avoid the dog's chewing the dumbbell. The 2 kg dumbbell is seldom chewed because it is too heavy.

Retrieve equipment for trials

Trial retrieve sticks are made of square wood, with measurements regulated by the Swedish Working Dog Club's trials rules. The trial retrieve stick is 10 cm long. The final retrieve stick is 36 cm long. The 10 cm trial retrieve stick is also used for the scent test in obedience trials.

Magnum boots

Manufactured by HI-TEC, USA. An anatomically constructed boot that is light, supportive and kind to the knees and back on long walks. HI-TEC is a large American manufacturer of training shoes for various ball sports. Magnum has a moisture-absorbing lining that keeps the foot dry, a moulded rubber sole and a midsole with arch reinforcement. Magnum's extra-high support and steel shank make the boot very supportive. Thermoplastic reinforced toe caps and heel counters give extra protection. An excellent boot for the police, guards and others who walk a lot in their work. Supportive and kind to the feet. Used by several Swedish police districts.
